Today was a little bit different day. Dr. Bernstein came to visit us at UBS and after I handed in my project and we tested it, I had some time to chill. Because the previews days I stayed late in the bank, today I letf around 3:30 and we didn’t go back the usual route, but on the ferry. We took the train to Bridgeport, from there the ferry to Port Jefferson and from there by car to Oakdale. Vassil and I went to Red Lobster to eat something and then we saw Ocean’s Thirteen. The movies wasn’t bad. Now I’m waiting for Dary to come back from work and we will go to bed.
Today I spent most of my time working with AJAX. Also we changed the structure of the project I’m working on now, because it became too complicated for it’s purpouse. The web page is pretty dynamic now and by the end of the day I was happy with the result. I was clicking here and there watching how the page changes without refreshing. I also noticed that the source code does not get updated, only the browser updates the actual appearance. Also XHTML 1.1 and AJAX are not best friends, howerver XHTML 1.0 T is pretty friendly :). On my way back I stopped by the deli to pick up an order of chicken souvlaki and greek sallad which I enjoyed a little later. Tomorrow I’ll be going back to LI with Dr. Bernstein on the ferry and should be interesting. If it’s not raining I buy something from the store and again try to cook something
Today I was looking at AJAX. In a few words it’s a combination of HTML, Javascript and ASP or PHP. Of course I picked php. My goal was to create a dynamic form, which, based on input, adds more input fields. I went pretty well. We couldn’t test today, but I think tomorrow will be the day.
Around 6 came Vassil and we went here and there till around 10, when I came home and I think I’ll be going to bed.
I have to tell you that a good sleep realy matters for your productivity during the day. Yesterday I was too tired at work and I couldn’t do much. However last night I went to bed around 11 and today I woke up at 7:30 very fresh. As a result of that I not only came up with a good solution to my new project but even implemented the better part of it - the hardest. All I have to do is write a small web page that will be an interface to the script and I’ll be done with this one too. Nice. Also, a little before I left the guys found a bug in the build script they were using and I fixed that before I left. Very productive day. I’ll try to go to bed on time.
1/3 of the Internship is now history. Today started the second third with a new project. It is not as straight forward as the first one, but after a nice sleep tonight I shild be able to come up with an elegant solution tomorrow and start working on it.
On my way home, after work, I stopped by the local movie theater and got a ticket for the fantastic 4 - the silver guy, which turned out well. I might watch something else this week. After the movie I did my laundry and now it’s about time to go to bed.
At last a nice weeken. One that corresponds to my new job. As we say in Bulgaria, and hasan is people. It was the first time for the looooongest time that I did not work on Saturday nor Sunday and I spent the two days without studying nor working. Saturday morning(more like noon), after a nice loong sleep, we had our breakfast and we got the bikes out for a ride to the park. And like that till around 3pm. We came back and we had some lunch. Later Dary went to work and I got on the bike again and went shopping. It took me about an hour ( because the two stores are not very close to us nor themselves ), but in the end I had the ingredients to make the classical fried Bulgarian meatballs, curly french fries and milk salad ( aka Snowwhite). I told Dary earlier not to eat at the restaurant, because I’ll make dinner. When she came home, we had a nice meal and a little chat with Vassil and Angel. Also we watched the second episode of the third season of Tom Chef. After that we went to bed. Sunday, again after a nice long sleep, we went with Vassil to the store to buy some food and I made chicken spindles (stuffed chicken breast with pickles, mushrooms and cheese) (one each) than we went to his place to grill them next to the pool. Of course I had to go into the water for a little while at least. In the Afternoon we went to see the third part of the Pirates of the Caribbean. On our way home we stopped by Wendy’s for a chicken burger and we came home. I left with Petko and Isida to Stamford ( by car). For my pleasant surprise it took us less than one and a half hours to go there. It was a very nice weekend and I’ll try to repeat it more often. The next one I think will not work out like that, because Dary is working both days, but we will figure out something.
This Friday I handed in the first project. I don’t know yet what will be my next one. Also I got on the train erlier than usual. Because of that I was on GCT at 5pm and it was crazy! It was hard to go through the moving people. Later at Penn it was the same. I even had to stand in the train… At least I got home erlier, which was good. I even went to the store with the bike and I made a banana pudding, a little too sweet tho. Next time I’ll know how to make it right.
Today, if we do not count that a few perl modules didn’t like eachother, we can say that the project is done. I refreshed my perl pretty well and I think that the two scripts work pretty good. Tomorrow I’ll play around with those perl modules ( because I don’t have admin rights and can’t install fresh ones, nor the ones I need ), but there’s not even a compiler on these machines… but it will be fun. Next week I’ll have to start something new.
This morning was cloudy and dark. Maybe because of yesterday, I don’t know. But the day was productive as a whole. My project is in a pretty advanced state and I expect to finish it soon. It wasn’t anything hard, rather something useful, that had to be done. Next Friday Dr. Bernstein will pay us a visit at UBS. I assume he wants to discuss further UBS and Dowling connections, in which there is nothing bad. This weekend I plan to spend my time resting more than the last two. If the weather is nice, we will go at Vassil’s place otherwise we might go for a movie marathon.
Today the interesting thing was that we had a fire drill and all of us had to go outside. And because this morning was cloudy I had my umbrella with me, and the afternoon turned to be pretty hot and sunny, and because we had to go out to the parking lot, I opened my umbrella and stayed under the shade. Shortly a few people from our team joined me under the shade and the umbrella was announced the official D&EL(the name of the team) umbrella

"There is nothing better than moderation
for teaching people or serving Heaven.
Those who use moderation
are already on the path to the Tao.
Those who follow the Tao early
will have an abundance of virtue.
When there is an abundance of virtue,
there is nothing that can not be done.
Where there is limitless ability,
then the kingdom is withing your grasp.
When you know the Mother of the kingdom,
then you will be long enduring.
This is spoken of as the deep root and the firm trunk,
the Way to a long life and great spiritual vision." - Lao Tzu (老子)
